摘要

This chapter focuses on the association pathways linking post-Rolandic cortical areas with particular prefrontal cortical regions, including comments on their possible functional significance. It shows that the prefrontal cortical areas that receive input from particular post-Rolandic regions give rise to efferent connections that are directed back to the same areas from which they received input. These pathways provide particular prefrontal areas with sensory-specific or multimodal information and, at the same time, provide the means by which the prefrontal cortical areas can regulate information processing in the posterior cortical areas.
