This paper is a sequel to c( K-theory and Stable Algebra " [i], hereafter referred to as [K], The object is to study the behavior of the functor K 1 , constructed in [K, 12], under polynomial and related extensions. The analogous problem for its companion, K, was handled already by Grothendieck (see 8] or [6, 9]), and it will be convenient for us first to recall his result.
