This old standard text has undergone its first face‐lift since its 1963 third edition. Its length has been increased from 381 pages to 499, its size from 14.5×22.0 cm to 15.5×23.5 cm, the number of equations from 433 to 859, the number of figures from 43 to 96, the date of most recent reference from 1962 to 1985, and its price from $9.50 to $69.50. Problems have been added to the end of each chapter, and an appendix of earth models (e.g., the Preliminary Earth Reference Model) to the end of the book. As Bolt states in the preface, “About sixty percent of this edition is new material.”
