摘要

The causal link between finance and
\n growth is one of the most striking empirical macroeconomic
\n relationships uncovered in the past decade. As this branch
\n of the literature matures, the focus shifts from growth to
\n other aspects of economic prosperity, and from financial
\n depth to multidimensional measures of financial development.
\n The author reviews the evolution of the literature and
\n contributes by: Showing that financial depth is negatively
\n associated with headcount poverty, even after taking account
\n of mean income and inequality. Illustrating the pitfalls in
\n equating financial development with financial depth.
\n Proposing alternative measures of financial development
\n that, though summary, capture its multidimensional nature.
